7 Best New Wine Shops & Bars in Houston

February 02, 2023 by Monica Jones in food, pairings, natural wines, Texas Wines, wine club

Wow, it’s been a while wineos. Finally knocking the cobwebs off and publishing the first blog of the new year. After successfully participating in Dry January, I wanted to share some of the newest openings and best places to sip and shop for wine in Houston. From micro wineries, thoughtfully curated boutique shops and a notable happy hour, here’s seven new spots to get acquainted with.

Reata Cellars- The woman-owned duo behind the latest addition to the Greater Heights has years of experience in the wine indusry. The intimate shop that doubles as a wine bar is filled with over 90 hand picked selections of fine wines from all over the world including Texas. By-the-Glass prices range from $10-15 and you can grab a charcuterie board while shopping for the next bottle to add to your collection. 633 W. 19th St

Wine Vibes- Missouri City is welcoming a new micro winery later this month. Three powerhouse women who recognized the need for diversity within the wine industry are behind this concept that will offer wine tastings, bottle sales, special events and a bistro. Guests can enjoy entrees like flatbreads and paninis, small bites, such as jerk shrimp skewers and balsamic glazed brussel sprouts, with a variety of charcuterie boards to pair with wine selections. 9018 Sienna Crossing Drive Suite 100

Sipstahood- Located right in the heart of Houston’s historic 3rd Ward neighborhood, is a winery and tasting room that fuses philanthropy with a full sensory experience. Guests can enjoy a 3-flight wine tasting that features Sipstahood’s custom blends. Feel good about your consumption as 20% is donated back into the community. The vintner aims to build awareness and accessibility of viticulture through urban social impact in underserved communities. 5251 Live Oak St.

Dodie’s Wine Shop- This cozy wine shop is home to over 100 bottles that include women-owned brands, TX wines, craft beers and a notable sparkling list. Dodie likes to sip everything that she sources, so you’re bound to find a wine that you’ll fall in love with. Future winemaker led tastings are planned for the near future. The resident dog is also a cutie. 1701 W. 15th St

Marmo- Dear Marmo, you had me at hello! This Italian chophouse was one of the first additions to the new Montrose Collective. The charming and luxe space is the perfect setting for a date night or special occasion. Featuring an all Italian wine list your palate will transport you to Tuscany after a delightful pairing of a vintage Nebbiolo and their Bolognese. The Happy Hour, Sunday-Friday 3-6pm is also worthy of your attention. Snag a glass of Primitivo for $6 and bites under $8. 888 Westheimer Rd

Imperial Wine SLTX- All the Natties report to the front. Finally, a bottle shop dedicated solely to natural wine lovers. Less intervention, doesn’t mean less quality as this bottle shop aims to offer Sugar Land residents a twist on the old vine. A range of producers line the shelves with wines that are organic or biodynamically grown. A wine club is in the works as residents in the area can take advantage of special tastings and events. 106-C Bay View Dr.

Catch the Beat: OST Liquor Debuts Beat Wines Club

August 19, 2021 by Monica Jones in wine, wine club, Texas Wines, reviews

If you've had the pleasure of visiting a winery, chances are you've heard the wine club pitch. Wine clubs are big business for wineries and a great way for wineos to increase their knowledge with priority access to premium wines. After successfully operating through a pandemic, OST Liquor Store aims to engage the Houston wine community and build the confidence of its buyers through its latest venture, Beat Wines. As owner and wine enthusiast, Chris Cooper told the Houston Chronicle last year "Again, it's just about educating the community and giving exposure to the brands people may not know." Beat Wines, is a thoughtfully curated selection of wines offered to wineos monthly. Members can take advantage of the Weekly Drinker- $60 (4 bottles a month) or the Daily Drinker- $110 (8 bottles a month) delivered for FREE right to their doorstep. So why a wine club? We've compiled the top 7 benefits of the Beat Wines Club so you can start or add to your collection.

1. Collect More, Drink More
Even if you consider yourself more of an enthusiast than collector, you're a self-proclaimed wineo if you have more than three bottles readily available at any given time. As they say, you don't have to get ready, if you stay ready. Plus, you don't have to adhere to those half glass rules at home.

2. Low Risk, High Reward

As the Delta variant outpaces its predecessor we must continue to take precautions to limit and prevent the spread of Covid-19. Wine clubs offer no hassle and convenient delivery options that save you time and lower your risk of exposure to Covid-19 while shopping.

3. Support Local
As retailers face challenges like the rapid growth of the digital age and operating in a pandemic, small and family-owned businesses must rely on a supportive community to compete. The addition of a wine club provides an element of human connection.

4. Learn Sommthing
Wine club members get access to exclusive and unique sips to expand their palate. Each bottle comes with a tasting card to learn more about the winemaker, region and varietal in a fun and informative way. Even daring wine lovers are guaranteed to find something to snob about.

5. Drink Good, Do Good
Want to finally feel guiltless about how much wine you're consuming month to month? Want to do your part by supporting worthy local causes? Drink good and do good, as 5% of sales are donated to a rotating area charity.

6. Wine on a Dime
The wine experts at OST Liquor Store have handpicked some of the most notable and funky wines at a fraction of their retail price. Which means you get to try exceptional wines from around the country that are typically hard to find. Enjoy wines you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself.

7. Value Vines
What's better than one bottle that you love? Four or Eight. The daily and weekly wine club membership proves that great wines can be inexpensive. Enjoy a mixed variety of wines monthly or skip any given month. Members are also privy to special treatment with invites for tastings, discounts and special events.

If you're ready to take your wine knowledge or collection to the next level be sure to sign up for your membership during the launch period and receive 15% off the first month of subscription with our code: THEBLACKWINEO
